Calcutta HC orders SIT probe into Abhishek Banerjee's entry at Matua Thakurbari amid controversy

The Calcutta High Court has ordered the State Director General of Police to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the Matua Thakurbari lynching case. Justice Rajasekhar Mantha on Tuesday directed an ADG rank officer to head the probe.

According to his instructions, the police should accept the FIR on the basis of the complaint. The order of the High Court has come on the petition of Union Minister of State Shantanu Thakur.

The High Court said that all the arrested Matua devotees should be released on bail. The next hearing of this matter will be on July 18.The High Court has directed the state government to collect the CCTV camera footage of the temple premises and the hospital.

It was alleged that Trinamool All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee tried to enter the Matua Mahasangh temple without permission.

There was a lot of uproar in Thakurbari regarding the entry of Abhishek Banerjee.
